Twin Brothers with a Dream in an RV named ‘Jolene’
After a successful year on the domestic and international film festival circuit, filmmakers Gary Lane and Larry Lane (http://www.lanetwins.com) announced a distribution deal for their latest film, Hollywood to Dollywood. The 84-minute documentary follows the twin brothers on a journey across country from, where else but, Hollywood, California to Dollywood in Tennessee to meet their idol, country music legend Dolly Parton.
Stepping out to realize their dream, twin brothers Gary and Larry Lane wrote a screenplay with a plum roll for one of their idols, country music legendary singer Dolly Parton. They had no luck getting the screenplay into her hands, so they embark on a cross-country journey to personally deliver it to her. They set off from Dolly’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame heading east for Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Friend and partner Mike Bowen drove the RV, which they affectionately named ‘Jolene’ on a transcontinental five-day journey of 2,200 miles along Interstate 40. At rest stops, RV parks, bars, and hair salons the intrepid band of travelers meet everyday, ordinary Americans, as they fight all that Mother Nature has to offer from an Oklahoma tornado to floods in downtown Nashville.
The journey also is one of personal discovery for the brothers. Watch while
they explain their loving – yet strained — relationship with their parents, their personal hopes and fears, and their long dreams and ambitions. Hear about the bigotry they encounter as they search for tolerance and acceptance. And, most of all, rejoice with them as they seek to fulfill one of their biggest dreams by handing their screenplay to Dolly Parton.
Hollywood to Dollywood features 15 of Dolly Parton’s most famous songs, including I Will Always Love You, Coat of Many Colors, and Jolene. She also graciously allowed her image to be used in the movie poster and to promote the film. Two previously unreleased Dolly songs also are featured in the documentary. A portion of each DVD/BluRay sale will benefit the Imagination Library, Dolly’s signature literacy foundation (http://www.imaginationlibrary.com).
Emmy Award winning actor Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace, Sordid Lives, My Trip Down the Pink Carpet), renown actor and co-producer Chad Allen (Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Save Me, End of Spear), Academy Award nominee Beth Grant (The Artist, Sordid Lives), Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar), broadcasting personality Ann Walker and others appear throughout the film in brief cameo moments.
The Lane Twins, best known for their 2001 first place win on NBC’s Fear Factor and their 2011 win of ABC’s Winter Wipe-Out reality shows.
“After two years of anticipation, Dolly friends/fans, the time has come,” Gary Lane said. “The beautiful Tennessee songbird has given her blessing for Hollywood to Dollywood to be produced on DVD.”
The projected release date is May 1, the same day that Joyful Noise, Parton’s latest film co-starring Queen Latifah, is scheduled to hit store shelves.
Hollywood to Dollywood has won more than 20 film festival awards in the United States, Canada and Scotland and has played before packed audiences in 50 different cities around the world.
